As Kansas City continues to enjoy a revitalization, new neighborhoods start to emerge that you may never have visited. Perhaps to kick of 2017, you could spend a day exploring The Westside area centered around 17th and Summit Street.  The eclectic, family-filled neighborhood is home to nightlife hot spots, locally focused retail shops and some of the most innovative and modern real estate in the city.  

Right next to the Crossroads district with a view of the Kauffman center, The Westside is a strong community where neighbors know one another and probably brew beer together.  Here are some of the sights in the area:

Start your morning feeling like a Parisian by stopping into the westside creperie, Chez Elle.  From Chez Elle “We start with only the freshest, hand selected fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and our made from scratch batters.”  And you can watch as the delicately thin, eggy crepes are made in the traditional way.

Take your coffee from Chez Elle to go and stroll down the street; on they way, you won’t be able to help but notice the newly built modern homes with simple and sleek lines alongside 200 year old homes lovingly restored to their glory days.

Stop in at Westside Storey, A metaphor for the Westside neighborhood itself, Westside Storey is a little shop where modern and vintage styles live side-by-side. This eclectic mix of local artists’ wares and antique items is nestled among the community’s popular food spots, so you can browse while waiting for your table, then come back again when sated.

End your afternoon having a few brews on the porch at the Boulevard Beer Hall at Boulevard Brewing Company.  Boulevard says ‘any and all are welcome, including people waiting for a tour, those who just finished a tour, and folks who simply want to hang out in a cool space with fun people and delicious beer.”  They serve a limited menu of beer friendly food and great views.
